Rock drawing
Conte crayon, pencil and charcoal (right)
Here I was aware of the contrast between warm tones and cool tones whilst doing this drawing- the cold shadows gave a feeling of depth, of cold dark recesses in the heavy rock. Pencil marks on top of the crayon had a slight shimmer - when the pencil catches the light you can see a network of lines and marks which look like cracks across the page, giving an ethereal feeling to the drawing. If this was in a gallery space and the viewer walked passed it, it would change as their viewpoint changed - I liked this element of variation in a drawing of something as solid and stable looking as rock.
