After a day of drawing in the studio space at Sumburgh Head Lighthouse yesterday, today included exploring the remains of a radar hut in the lighthouse grounds (part of Sumburgh Head Admiralty Experimental Station 1) and a GPO (General Post Office) radio station at Scraefield, Quarff from the 1930s/40s (but perhaps constructed in preparation of hostilities).

Read MoreA trip up the long road to the radar station at Fitful Head gave panoramic views of the surrounding area, including Sumburgh airfield and the remains of an RAF radar station to the north. Next was a visit to the site of RAF Garth’s Ness, a NATO LORAN A (Long Range Navigation) station.
