Pastel Society Annual Exhibition 2026
I am delighted and honoured that my piece ‘Synthesis’, 2024 has been selected for the 127th Pastel Society Annual Exhibition 2026! The exhibition brings together contemporary pastel and dry media works under the theme “Direct Touch.”
This piece was made over several summer weeks, working directly from a tree and not beginning with a pre-determined compositional idea, but allowing the drawing to grow outwards as I made my way around fluttering leaf-forms. This resulted in an abstract-expressionist all-over quality where each area has equal significance, expressive of nature’s boundlessness. In keeping with the exhibition theme, this piece and subsequent tree studies have explored a tactile sensitivity between media and paper-surface.
The 127th Pastel Society Annual Exhibition 2026 opens on 21 January at Mall Galleries, London.
